Comparative Standards for Marathon Running Events between Thailand and the UK

Abstract

This article purposes to introduce to the UK Athletics (UKA) standards for marathon race events to provide sports lawyers, sports legislators and sports policy makers with an understanding of how these standards may impact upon marathon runners, race participants, running event organizers and sports authorities in the UK. Additionally through comparative analysis of the UK and Thailand’s running standards Thai sports governing bodies may develop a detailed knowledge of the sports regulations, enabling them to critically evaluate the current marathon race regulations in Thailand, and learn, adapt and apply modern standards for marathon race events to sports safety scenarios and analytical sports safety questions. By situating the sports requirements relating to road and multi-terrain Marathon race event in its legal, safety and security context this article also seeks to highlight a number of critical issues which may arise in this sports area and allow Thailand’s running race stakeholders to appreciate the practical impact and importance of this areas.
