Aims & scope:

Suranaree Journal of Social Science (SJSS) is an open access peer-reviewed journal. It has a strong determination to promote original and scholarly research studies, academic articles, review articles,  and book reviews which encompass social sciences and related disciplines.  The journal especially focuses on Social Sciences, Applications of Technology, Information Systems and Management, General Management, Language and Culture as well as Education in Thai and Asian contexts. SJSS accepts the manuscripts in the following areas:

  • Social Sciences which include general social sciences, philosophy and the like.
  • Information Technology which includes specific areas of information systems and management, technology and its applications in various contexts
  • General management which includes specific areas of business or public administrative management, financial and accounting, etc.
  • Language and Culture which include specific areas of language and linguistic studies, applied linguistics, local and international cultural issues, etc.
  • Education which includes specific areas of educational policy, primary and secondary school education, higher education, and so on.

SJSS aims to be a distinguished platform for esteemed researchers and readers in the field of social science to exchange and disseminate high-quality research studies and critical reviews within its academic communities. Each manuscript undergoes a rigorous peer-review process to ensure scholarly excellence. SJSS is committed to enhancing the knowledge base of academic scholars and interested parties by providing novel insights and advancements in the diverse realms of social science disciplines.

Types of Published Articles

Thai or English articles under the scopes of the journal are welcomes to be published in future issues of SJSS.  Articles must be original and not currently under review elsewhere. They can be

  • Research Articles which are articles where the authors report on the studies they conducted. They should be composed of an abstract, introduction, literature review, research methods, results, discussion, conclusions and credible references.  The length should be around 10-20 pages.
  • Academic Articles which are critical evaluations of studies in particular areas that have already been published or theoretical articles which the authors aim to formulate new theories on existing research. The length should be around 10-25 pages.
  • Review articles which provide a comprehensive summary and analysis of existing research and literature on a specific topic or research area. The authors mainly focus on synthesizing, evaluating, and discussing previously published studies and their findings. The length should be around 10-20 pages.
  • Book Reviews presents a thorough description, an accurate summary of its contents. In addition, the critical analysis and/or evaluation of the quality, meaning and significance of the book should be clearly addressed. The length should be around 3- 5 pages.

Publication Frequency

SJSS publishes peer-reviewed articles online. It publishes 2 issues per year (June & December).

Language

Suranaree Journal of Social Science (SJSS) accepts papers in both Thai and English.

Publication Charges

To publish a paper in SJSS, there is a publication fee 4,000 Baht (120 USD) for an accepted manuscript only. The payment should be directly transferred to Suranaree University of Technology’s account after getting the acceptance letter.  This charge is effective from June 1, 2022 onwards.

Open Access Policy

All articles published in SJSS are fully open access. They are free available to read, download and share.  Proper citations of these articles are required for their reproduction and public distribution and reproduction by any medium. 

Ownership and Management

SJSS is operated under the Research Department, Institute of Social Technology, Suranaree University of Technology because the scopes of SJSS are relevant to Social Sciences.   The Head of the Research Department, editorial team and supporting staff are fully in charge of the operation of the publications. Initially, SJSS received financial support from the Office of the Higher Education Commission and Suranaree University of Technology.  Later, SJSS can stand alone and no longer receive any financial support except for the publication fee.   

Publisher

SJSS publishes peer-reviewed articles online. It publishes 2 issues per year (June & December) by Research Department, Institute of Social Technology, Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand.

Copyright and Licensing

The authors should be acknowledged that the submitted article must be original and that the consent form of all named authors is required to submit along with each manuscript. The authors must obtain official permission to include texts, figures, data or any other information of others.

Upon submitting the article, the authors have agreed to grant the right to Suranaree Journal of Social Science (SJSS) to publish the article without any restrictions.

Revenue Sources

The only revenue of SJSS is the publication fee (4,000 baht or 120 USD) per article.  Only accepted articles will be charged and the authors will pay after they get the acceptance letter.  As SJSS does not have any sponsors, it allows editorial team to work independently.

The payment is applicable only to accepted articles, and authors are required to remit the fee after receiving the official acceptance letter. It is important to note that SJSS operates independently, as it does not receive financial support from sponsors. This financial model enables our editorial team to function independently in managing the journal's operations.

Advertising and Direct Marketing

SJSS does not have any advertising and direct marketing. 

Meaning of "Suranaree"

Suranaree is from the name of Thao Suranaree, also spelled Thao Suranari (1771–1852) who was the wife of the deputy governor of Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat). She is credited as the leader who saved the city from invaders in 1826. Several important places in this region are named after her including district name, university, college, school, building, etc. Her monument is one of tourist attractions in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Journal History

In 2006, the Institute of Social Technology established a journal to serve as a medium for faculties and students to publish their research work. The Research Department is responsible for this project. The first volume was published in June 2007 with financial support from Suranaree University of Technology.

The SJSS publishing process strictly follows the journal quality evaluation of the Commission on Higher Education (CHE). The journal was awarded financial support for journal publishing (Humanities and Social Science areas) from the CHE during 2007 – 2009. The journal continuously publishes and has been indexed in Thai-Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) (Tier 1) database since January 1, 2015 and ASEAN CITATION INDEX (ACI) database since November 7, 2018.
