Key Success Factors for Sustainable development Management of the Phuket International Airport

Abstract

This research has objectives in order to (1) study key factors, both internal and external, of success of Phuket International Airport management for sustainable development.; (2) study the level of the successful management of Phuket International Airport to the sustainable development according to the perspective of Phuket International Airport staffs and outsiders who work in the airport; (3) study comparison of the opinions between Phuket International Airport staffs’ perspective and outsiders who work in the airport to achievement  in Phuket International Airport sustainable development, and (4) study the internal and external factors for impact on success of Phuket International Airport management for sustainable development.

The population of this research was Phuket International Airport staffs 371 persons and outsiders work in the airport, commercial enterprises and airlines operation, 148 persons. Among these, 226 samples were chosen by the application of Taro Yamane’s calculation. The samples were stratified random sampling and sample Random Sampling consisted of 156 Phuket International Airport staffs and 70 outsiders. The study tools are questionnaire survey and formal interview with 11 Phuket International Executives. Statistical tools employed were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test analysis, mediation analysis, the simple linear regression analysis, and content analysis.

The result of research found that (1) The external and internal factors those related the successful management of Phuket International Airport to the sustainable development. Both of the opinions from the respondent group who are Phuket International Airport staffs and the outsider were accepted at high level and moderate level respectively. (2) Based on the successful development of Phuket International Airport sustainability, the opinions from the respondent group of Phuket International Airport staffs and the outsiders were high level and middle level respectively. But these two respondent groups have agreed that Phuket International Airport has succeeded to sustainable development in term of economy more than in term of society and environment. (3) The comparison between Phuket International Airport staffs opinions and outsiders who work in the airport opinions found that there were different between both groups with statistical significance level at 0.05. (4) For the mediation analysis, the internal factors these were policies and organizational strategy and human resource management were influenced by external factors but could not affect the result of the successful management of Phuket International Airport to the sustainable development with statistical significance level at 0.05. Also human resource management factor was influenced by policies and organizational strategy could not affect the result as well. However, the result of the direct relation found that the external factor has affected the result of the successful development of Phuket International Airport with statistical significance level at 0.05.
