PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN DISASTER PREVENTION AND MITIGATION OF HOT DISTRICT IN CHIANGMAI PROVINCE

Abstract

          The purposes of this independent study were to (1) study the level of public participation in disaster prevention and mitigation of Hot district (2) study independent variables correlated with public participation in Hot district (3) study strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and treats of public participation in disaster prevention and mitigation of Hot district and(4)  recommend the methods to enhance the public participation in disaster prevention and mitigation of Hot district

          This independent study was a survey research emphasized on quantitative research. The Populations consisted of 2 groups as follows:(1) populations live in Hot district from 6 areas total 37,917, calculated by Taro Yamane formula at the confidence level 95 percent (2) populations consisted of 8 people who are Hot’s sheriff and the executives of municipalities in Hot district, using purposive sampling method and collected data by the interview form. For the quantitative data, using descriptive statistics as follows; frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, and inferential statistics as follows; t-test, One-Way ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. For qualitative data used inductive analysis and typological analysis.

          The results of this independent study were as follows; (1) the level of public participation in disaster prevention and mitigation of Hot district has the moderate level (2) environmental managing factor and public participation in policy implementation correlated with public participation in disaster prevention and mitigation of Hot district, have strong positive (3) strength was high conscious of people, weakness was lacking of resource such as human resource, tools and money, opportunity was new technology and innovation that reduce time and process, and threat was economic depression (4) recommendations as followings : the government should support required resource sufficient to implement environmental management policy in area’s department and community, there should be public relations, knowledge management, and raise community’s awareness thoroughly, promote community to enhance economic and make use of opportunity in advanced technology to support implement environmental management policy
