Abstract

This paper investigates the potential usefulness of the three parameter transmuted generalized inverted exponential distribution for modelling upside-down bathtub shaped instantaneous failure rates. Some structural properties of this distribution are discussed. Explicit expressions are derived, such as quantile, Rényi entropy and the rth moment of order statistics. The method of maximum likelihood is used for estimating the model parameters and illustrate this model through an application to failure data.
