Abstract

Developing medical students’ characters is critical to the transformation of inner self, especially communication skills, good relationships, self- control, empathy and altruism which affected learners’ high compassion. Appreciative inquiry approach is applied in teaching and learning designed for transforming to be humanistic learners. This article reviewed the appreciative inquiry approach, focusing on the development, definitions, creating goodness, altruism, theory and principle of appreciative inquiry, and appreciative inquiry to create goodness. The development of an appreciative inquiry is based on creating body of knowledge and managing goodness as an alternative to the prevailing approach which provides new perspectives that can eventually contribute to the community and society.
