Cancer patients therefore require high spiritual care coupled with physical care. Moreover, care should include physical, psychological, and social dimensions to help patients with cancer who face spiritual distress and crisis, or to put patients at peace during the end stage of their lives. Therefore, understanding the dimensions of spiritual needs allows for the evaluation and provision of appropriate care for patients. This article reviews the concepts and methods for assessing spiritual need of cancer patients for health professionals, especially registered nurses, and caregivers. This involves adjustments to maintain balance when changing their surroundings from within the uterus to the external environment. This transitive phase can result in health problems if the transitive process is incomplete or some factors disturb the transitive period of the newborn, such as transient tachypnea, respiratory distress etc. In particular, the occurrence of transient tachypnea of the newborn leads up to the neonatal respiratory distress which may cause death of the newborn. Thus, labor room nurses must understand and recognize the occurrence of&nbsp; transient tachypnea of the newborn, including the causes, risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis and appropriate care to prevent severe complications arising from transient tachypnea.</p> สุรีพร ศรีโพธิ์อุ่น ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-04-30 2019-04-30 29 1 11 20 Factors Correlated with Stress of Patients with Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 in Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Medical Center, Ongkharak, Nakhonnayok Province <p>This study was conducted to investigate the factors correlated with stress among patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. A cross-sectional descriptive design was used in this study. A convenience sampling technique was used to recruit 163 Diabetes Mellitus type 2 patients from the outpatient department of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Medical Center, Ongkharak, Nakhonnayok Province. The tools used for data collection included 1) a questionnaire regarding general information about diabetes, 2) a Diabetic coping behaviors questionnaire, and 3) a Self-analysis stress test evaluation questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS program to obtain the frequency, percentage, Pearson correlation coefficient and spearman rank correlation coefficient. The main findings found that more than half of the respondents had a normal level of stress coping (57.1%) and low stress (55.8%). Factors that affect the level of stress were: 1) blood sugar has positive significant correlation with stress (r<sub>p</sub>=.16, p=.04), which means that the blood glucose level varies with the stress level, 2) coping has negative significant correlation with stress (r<sub>s</sub>=-.24, p=.01), which means coping with stress was inversely related with stress level. The results of this study can be used as&nbsp; basic information for the design and development of programs to solve stress problems in diabetic patients. The sample consisted of 40 elderly residents in Ban Sritang Nursing Home. The simple random sampling procedure with a lottery method was used to assign 20 elderly residents into the experimental group and 20 elderly residents into the control group. The experimental group received 10 activities of the resilience-enhancing program that was conducted 120 minutes per activity for 5 weeks. The control group received normal care&nbsp; provided by the nursing home. The research instrument was a structured interview. The data analysis included percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The results revealed that the average posttest scores of resilience in the experimental group were statistically significant higher than the average pre-test scores at p-value &lt;.01. The posttest score of depression in the experimental group were statistically significantly lower than the average pretest scores at p-value &lt;.01 while the average posttest scores of social relationship were statistically significantly higher than the average pretest scores at p-value &lt;.01. The comparison between experimental and control groups showed the average posttest score of resilience of the experimental group was statistically significantly higher than the average score of the control group at p-value &lt;.01 and the average posttest score of social relationship of the experimental group was statistically significantly higher than the control group at p-value &lt;.01, when controlling for the average pretest score. The sample consisted of 98 computer users working in Songkhla Town’s Area. A questionnaire was used to collect data to assess hazard perception and preventive behaviors regarding computer syndrome.&nbsp; The Cronbach alpha coefficient used to test reliability yielded a value of .85. Data were analysed using mean, standard deviation, and dependent t-test. Research results were found as follows;</p> <p>1) After program completion, the sample had a significantly higher mean score of hazard perception of computer syndrome as well as the mean scores of all three aspects than before participating in the program</p> <p>&nbsp;(<img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}">= 3.26, SD=0.36 and <img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}">= 2.44, SD=.36, <em>p</em>&lt;.001).</p> <p>2) After program completion, the sample had a significantly higher mean score of preventive behaviors regarding computer syndrome as well as the mean scores of all three aspects than before participating in the program (<img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}"> =3.20, SD=0.30)&nbsp; (<img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}">=2.74, SD=.52, p&lt;.001).</p> <p>Therefore, educational institutes should apply education-based program to promote hazard perception and prevention of computer syndrome among computer users in both public and private sectors.</p> สกุนตลา แซ่เตียว ทรงฤทธิ์ ทองมีขวัญ วรินทร์ลดา จันทวีเมือง ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-04-30 2019-04-30 29 1 48 59 Work Motivation of Village Health Volunteers in Suphanburi Province <p><img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}"></p> <p><img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}"></p> <p><img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}"></p> <p><img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}"></p> <p>This descriptive research explored the level of work motivation, relationships and its effects on work motivation of village health volunteers in Suphanburi province.&nbsp; The sample was selected by the multi-stage sampling technique for a total of 348 according to Crazy and Morgan Table.&nbsp; A 40-item questionnaire was used to collect data related to personal, motivation, hygiene and work motivation factors of village health volunteers. The reliability was .91. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The results showed high level of work motivation among village health volunteers (<img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}">=4.47, SD=.45). Significant factors positively correlated with work motivation at p&lt;.01 included wages (r=.69), career advancement (r=.64), being treated with respect (r=.62), work relationships(r=.60) and work environment (r=.55). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that 58% of the variation in work motivation of the village health workers was related to wages, career advancement, and treatment with respect. These findings suggest the importance of continuously promoting wages, career advancement, and treat with respect of village health volunteers, as these factors significantly affect work motivation. The benefits will result in an improvement in the delivery of health care for people by village health volunteers. and prevention of computer syndrome among computer users in both public and private sectors.</p> จรูญลักษณ์ ป้องเจริญ ยุคนธ์ เมืองช้าง ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-04-30 2019-04-30 29 1 60 70 Effects of the Thai Hermit Traditional Exercise and Heat Compress Program on Knee Pain Relief among Knee Osteoarthritis Patients <p>The quasi- experimental research with one-group pretest and posttest design was to study the effects of the Thai hermit traditional exercise and heat compress program on knee pain relief among knee osteoarthritis patients in Nongmamong district, Chainat province. The sample of the research included 30 knee osteoarthritis patients from Bansapanhin community, Moo 1, Nongmamong, Chainat province, selected according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology. They were provided with knowledge and awareness of the preventive practice under the concept of the PRECEDE model. Meanwhile they also practiced 3 poses of the Thai Hermit traditional exercise and were treated with the mung bean bag heat compress.&nbsp; The data was collected through the Thai Modified WOMAC pain subscales (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritic Index) questionnaire and survey which were collected one week before and after the 8 weeks of the experimental period. The time duration of the research was 10 weeks. Afterwards, the data was analyzed using&nbsp; descriptive statistic and paired t-test. The results showed that after the experiment, the sample group had higher average scores on the severity of knee osteoarthritis with statistical significance (p&lt;.05). The predisposing factors included knowledge, awareness about pain and benefits of pain relief, while the enabling factors included access to the healthcare services, access to health resources while the reinforcing factors including promotion of the pain relief among the family and the community were higher than those prior to the experiment with the statistical significance (p&lt;.05). This research aimed to explore depression and the relationship of social problem-solving and depression among 650 nursing students studying at the Nursing Faculty of one particular university in the Eastern part of Thailand in academic year 2017. Three research instruments were used to collect the data, including an Information form, the Center for&nbsp; Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, and the Social Problem-solving Inventory for Adolescents, each giving a Cronbach’s alpha of .89, and .83, respectively.&nbsp; Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA and Pearson’ product moment coefficient analysis were employed for data analyses.&nbsp; The results revealed that 32% of nursing students had depression in which 18 percent had mild and moderate depression and 14 percent had severe depression. There were significant differences in the occurrence of depression which varied according to the year of study, with significance level of .05 (F<sub>3,436</sub>=3.484, p&lt;.05). Moreover, nursing students had a moderate level of social problem-solving (&nbsp;<img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}">=107.28, SD=13.05). The correlation analysis showed that depression had a negative relationship with social problem-solving among nursing students (r=-.497, p&lt;.001).</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The research findings indicate that depression among the nursing students is a major mental health issue that needs to be addressed by faculty members or related health care providers through the development of the mental health services focused on enhancing the social problem-solving skills of nursing students.</p> ดวงใจ วัฒนสินธุ์ สิริพิมพ์ ชูปาน ภาคิณี เดชชัยยศ ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-05-14 2019-05-14 29 1 87 99 Incidence and Factors Related to the Low Birth Weight Newborns in Ramathibodi Hospital <p>A retrospective cohort study was conducted to investigate the incidence and related factors of the low birth weight newborns in Ramathibodi Hospital. The research participants consisted of 725 mothers who had newborns weighing less than 2,500 grams, from January 2014 to June 2016. The research instrument was an information record&nbsp; form that is applied from the concept risk factors of low birth weight. The World Health Organization form was divided into 3 sections: personal data, health data, and complications during pregnancy data. The data were collected from medical and labour records. The data were analyzed using descriptive and chi-square statistics. The result of this study found that the incidence of low birth weight among newborns were 10.88%, 13.09% and 15.02%, from January 2014 to June 2016, respectively. The data showed a preterm low birth weight of 65.50% and term low birth weight of 34.50%. Term low birth weight accounted for one third of all low birth weight newborns. Statistically significant factors correlated with preterm and term low birth weight were total weight gain (p=.001), preterm birth history (p=.028), number of fetuses (p=.019), pregnancy induced hypertension (p=.000) and antepartum hemorrhage (p=.036). The results of the study suggest that nurses should develop proactive antenatal care to prevent the occurrence of low birth weight newborns. Moreover, health education of the risk factors for LBW should be provided to pregnant women in order that the awareness upon warning signs will be enhanced. Especially, for the term low birth weight, nurses should be able to assess, prevent and solve problem from early pregnancy.</p> กุลสตรี วรรธนะไพสิฐ ยิ่งขวัญ อยู่รัตน์ ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-05-14 2019-05-14 29 1 100 110 Causal Relationship Model of Transformational Leadership, Learning Organization and Quality of Work Life Influencing Patient Unit Performance in General Hospitals under the Ministry of Public Health <p>The purposes of this correlational research were to identify and test a causal relationship model of transformational leadership learning organization, quality of work life and patient unit performance. The multi-stage sampling technique was used to include 386 nurses at eighty-three general hospitals under the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand. They were asked to answer five sets of questionnaires: 1) Personal Data Form,&nbsp; 2) Transformational Leadership Questionnaire, 3) Learning Organization Questionnaire, 4) Quality of Work Life Questionnaire, and 5) Patient Unit Performance Questionnaire. The reliability of each questionnaire had a Cronbach’s alpha Coefficient of .98, .98, .97 and .91, respectively. Data were analyzed using the statistical data analysis program for Structural Equation Modeling: SEM.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The findings of this study revealed patient unit performance was at the high level (<img title="\bar{x}" src="\bar{x}">=3.61, SD=.41). Transformational leadership of head nurse had positive direct effects on learning organization and quality of work life (ß=.59, ß=.55 p&lt;.001), respectively. Transformational leadership of the head nurse also had an indirect effect on patient unit performance through learning organization (ß=.09, p&lt;.001), it also had an indirect effect on patient unit performance through quality of work life (ß=.35, p&lt;.001). Learning organization had positive direct effects on patient unit performance (ß=.16, p&lt;.001), and quality of work life had positive direct effects on patient unit performance (ß=.64, p&lt;.001). The model accounted for 59 % of the variance in Patient Unit Performance and a substantial proportion of the variance of the mediating variables.</p> ปราณี มีหาญพงษ์ จันทร์จิรา วงษ์ขมทอง สุนีย์รัตน์ บุญศิลป์ เนตรชนก ศรีทุมมา ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-05-14 2019-05-14 29 1 111 124 Causes of Postponing or Cancelling Surgeries of Pre-appointment Patients, Ratchaburi Hospital <p>This descriptive study aimed at examining causes of postponement or cancellation of the surgeries of pre-appointment patients at Ratchaburi Hospital. The sample consisted of a list of 3,015 patients scheduled to have an appointment to have an operation at Ratchaburi Hospital during 1 August to 31 October 2017.&nbsp; Data were collected from a postponement or cancellation form. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze demographics and reasons of postponement or cancellation, while a Chi-square test was implemented to analyze associations between causes and other possible factors. It was found that about 18.7 percent of all pre-appointment patients postponed or canceled their surgeries. The reasons (56.47%) were no show of patients followed by unavailability of the surgeon (13.98%) and work overload (11. 33%) of surgeons respectively. The least likely cause was from un-readiness of operation rooms (4.6%).&nbsp; There were statistical associations between postponement or cancellation and genders, ages, types of patients, rights of treatments, and a service system (p&lt;.05). It was suggested that these findings could be used to enhance a quality of service by adding a process of increasing patients’ concerns and having them recognize the importance of keeping their appointment. Additionally, a two-day in advance confirmation system should be provided for patients to make contact regarding postponement or cancellation.</p> รำเพย วงค์คำปวน วิรดา อรรถเมธากุล ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-05-14 2019-05-14 29 1 125 138 The Development of Application Based Learning on Patient Restraint, Lifting and Moving for Diploma of Science Program in Emergency Medical Operation Students <p>This study aimed to develop application based learning on patient restraint, lifting and moving and investigate its effects. The sample consisted of 40 students enrolled in a diploma of science program in emergency medical operation and studied in the academic year 2018-2019 at the Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Chonburi. The students were divided into 2 groups; the applications based learning group (20 students) and the classical learning group (20 students). Purposive sampling was used to select the students. Data was collected using the learning achievement test. Statistics used in data analysis were percentage, mean, paired t-test and independent t-test. The results showed that the content quality was at the excellent level (M=4.46, SD=.28) and media quality was also at the excellent level (M=4.54, SD=.40). The knowledge scores on patient restraint, lifting and moving of the application based learning group after studying were significantly higher than their scores before studying (p=.000). Moreover, the knowledge and skill scores on patient restraint, lifting and moving of the applications based learning group after studying were significantly higher than the scores of the classical learning group (p=.000). The purposes of this quasi-experiment research were to compare health promoting behaviors and blood pressure scores among elder people before and after participating in a health promoting behavior program. The sample consisted of 45 older persons with hypertension who had blood pressure not more than 160/100 mmHg and treated at Banklong Sub District Health Promoting Hospital. The systematic random sampling method was used to select sample. The health promoting program was performed 4 times for 4 months. Data were collected by using the health behavior interview. Demographic data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Health behaviors and blood pressure levels were compared before and after the program by using t-test. The results of the study showed that elderly had significantly higher average posttest scores of health promotion behaviors than pretest and had significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure scores at end of the program than before starting the program at p&lt;.05.</p> วิภาพร สิทธิสาตร์ นิดา มีทิพย์ จันทร์จิรา อินจีน ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2019-05-14 2019-05-14 29 1 153 165 The Model Development of an Assessment of Nurse Educator Competencies for 21st Century among Nursing Colleges under Praboromarajchanok Institute for Health Workforce Development, Ministry of Public Health <p>This research and development study aimed to 1) develop an assessment model of nurse educator competency for 21st century and 2) examine the effectiveness of the assessment model of nurse educator competency for 21st century among nursing colleges under Praboromarajchanok Institute for Health Workforce Development (PIHWD), Ministry of Public Health. The development processes included 5 phases as follow: phase 1: exploring the situation of the model of competency evaluation of nurse educator, phase 2: developing the components and indicators of nurse educator competency for 21st century, phase 3: developing an assessment model of nurse educator competency for 21st century, phase 4: evaluating the effectiveness of the model, and phase 5: confirming the model of nurse educator competency for 21st century. The data were collected using documentation review, focus group discussion, and survey questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The results revealed that the model of the nurse educator competency assessment composed of 5 components 1) goal of the assessment is to evaluate competencies of nurse educator&nbsp; who work in nursing college individually according to the performance indicators that congruence with the role of nursing educators, 2) scope of the assessment is specific to the job performance including knowledge, skill, and personal attributes that necessary for job performance, 3) assessment process includes the development of assessment tool that composed of 7 components, 43 indicators, 360-degree assessor, and data collection using computer software, 4) judging the evaluation results by comparing with the assessment criteria and then create individual development plan and 5) applying the results of the assessment and monitor of an individual competency development according to competency development plan.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The model of the competency assessment for nurse educator was effective. Nurse educator reported a high level of satisfaction with the assessment model. All nurse educators (100%) had been developed based on their individual development plans.
