Abstract

This survey study aimed to evaluate  methamphetamine addiction treatment in the voluntary drug treatment system at Tambon Health Promoting Hospitals, Amnat Charoen Province. The addiction treatment was evaluated using the context, input, process, and products as a guiding framework. In addition, this study evaluated rehabilitation staff knowledge regarding methamphetamine addiction treatment. The population of this analysis consisted of 46 rehabilitation staff who provided methamphetamine addiction treatment in the voluntary drug treatment system at 46 Tumbol Health Promoting Hospitals, Amnat Charoen Province. The results showed that, 1) Context: the therapeutic staff members highly agreed with the importance and appropriateness of drug policies, 2) Input: most hospitals had one therapeutic staff member. All of the therapeutic staff had undertaken a counselor training program. The budget and narcotic urine testing tools were sufficiently supported, 3)Process: most of the participants moderately agreed with the process of drug treatment, and 4)Product: most of the patients completed the treatment program.More than 85% of the patients were able to discontinue drug usage within 3 months after the treatment program.

Most of the therapeutic staff had knowledge on addiction therapy at high and highest levels (82.6%).

The findings suggest that the therapeutic staff should be provided with an appropriate training program, so that they can help addicted patients to stop using drugs. Narcotic testing equipment should also be adequately supplied.
