Guideline for the Lack of Human Resource Development in the MICE Industry: A Study of Hotel Venues

Abstract

            The global vigorous growth in the MICE industry has led to shortages in qualified personnel capable of meeting the needs of the booming industry. This study aimed to find reasons for the insufficient jobs in the industry and guidelines for the development of adequate personnel in terms of quantity and quality. The study focused on hotel venues and data was collected from seventy hotels. The analysis of the data indicated that hotel venues lack various positions or personnel, particularly, guest service agents, sales associates, housekeepers, banquet staff, and operation.


            To increase the number of qualified personnel hotels should emphasize on: 1) English language training, additional language skills, and marketing skills 2) Encouraging employees to attend seminars on MICE business trends and being service minded 3) Hotels should also determine the competency of each staff member and provide training to improve their skills as motivating them with appropriate compensation.
