Abstract

The objective of this classroom-based research is to evaluate the teaching and learning strategies in the Practicum of the Fundamental of Nursing course, according to the Thai Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF). The subjects consisted of 189 second-year nursing students who enrolled in the course. The questions were analyzed by Cronbach's alpha coefficient, with a reliability of 0.78. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data in this study.

The research found that students assessed the learning outcomes of the course as “high” in all 6 aspects, namely 1) Moral and ethics ( = 4.55, SD = 0.33); 2) Interpersonal relationship and responsibility (gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.39, SD = 0.51); 3) Professional practice skills (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 4.10, SD = 0.44); 4) Cognitive skills (gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.08, SD = 0.46); 5) Knowledge (gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.04, SD = 0.41) ;and 6) Numerical analysis skill and communication (gif.latex?\bar{X} = 3.99, SD = 0.44). Students believe that a teaching and learning strategy that promotes understanding and achieving the learning outcomes of the course is a bedside teaching method. This teaching method requires that the instructor must integrate a variety of teaching skills to promote confidence and enhance professional practice in all 6 aspects of nursing students.

Suggestions: The simulation scenario should be adopted in the theoretical courses, as well, to ensure continuity when students enrol in practical courses.
