Abstract

This essay addresses economic and social remittances impacts on development from Javanese migrant workers returning from South Korea by taking a small survey at one village in Yogyakarta Special Region province, Indonesia. In regard to the influence of Confucianism in South Korean companies, the essay also identifies social
remittance types acquired by the Javanese former migrants in their workplace. Finally, it elaborates remittances utilization in the former migrants’ household and community. It suggests that migration of Javanese workers to South Korea gives some positive effects on development in the village of origin.
