The Accounting Students and Graduates’ Expectation, Satisfaction and Needs Assessment for Cooperative Education: Walailak University

Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the expectations, satisfaction and needs of students and graduates in accounting toward cooperative studies. 2) compares the differences in expectations, satisfaction, and needs of students and graduates in accounting in accordance with number of term of cooperative studies. 3) to provide guidance for the improvement of accounting courses. The samples used in this study were the graduates (graduated in 2017) and current year 1 to year 4 accounting students. Statistics used in the study and analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation. One-way ANOVA was used to determine the statistical significance level at 0.05 and post hoc test by multiple comparisons.


              The results show that: 1) students and graduates have the highest overall average expectations. They also have the highest overall average satisfaction. In addition, an assessment of the overall need was found that students with one term, two terms and three terms co-ops had a need for knowledge, competencies developed by cooperative education and accounting software, respectively. 2) By comparing the difference between expectation and the number of term of cooperative studies, it was found that students and graduates with different number of cooperative terms had different expectation in three aspects:- the knowledge of basic accounting, accounting software and opportunity of getting job prior to cooperative education. In additions the mean of satisfaction and needs assessment from 1, 2 and 3 terms of cooperative studies were not significantly different. 3) For suggestion, the students should be equipped with an accounting software subject, taxation workshop and personalities developing project prior cooperative study.
