Project of Buddhist Integration on Development of Knowledge and Health Supporting Process to Reduce Risk Factors

Abstract

This research has its objectives to study the knowledge and health supporting process in reducing the risk factors from alcoholic drinks and smoking; with also a model and a process of making mental wish for a mind ordination for the risk factors reduction resulted from drinking alcohol and smoking; and to present a model and a process of health supporting in reducing the risk factors by means of the Buddhist integration. This study uses the qualitative approach in conducting the research by using the research methodology in studying from the documents and field work data through an in-depth interview from the 2 role models. 44 participants are interviewed, and data gained from the group discussion of 6 groups in 6 provinces which each group is from each province. As the results, there are two bodies of knowledge and health supporting processes in reducing the risk factors from alcoholic drinks and smoking: 1) the knowledge and process in Buddhism and 2) the other related knowledge and process. Both of them indicated that family, social, friends, and way–local culture are the risk factors of drinking alcohol and smoking. While the Buddhism, medical, public health, and other fields have suggested and tried to continuously reduce those risk factors. The model and process of making mental wish for a mind ordination is like miracle integrated innovation creating for reducing of risk factors. This has been done by using the connection between the faith in Buddhism and ritual tradition, then draw inwards with making a mental wish for a mind ordination or taking an oath and pledge. For a model and health supporting process in reducing the risk factors by means of the Buddhist integration which presented by the research team have 2 concepts which are 1) Kalyāṇamittatā Way and 2) Pañña Way. For the next research, there should be a study to follow up a group of people who has resulted in influencing the reduction of risk factors in sustainable time which are role models, monks, community leaders, and there also should be a study in the national policy level continuously.
