          สังคมไทยกำลังก้าวสู่การเป็นสังคมผู้สูงอายุ พยาบาลวิชาชีพจึงมีความจำเป็นที่ต้องมีความรู้ความชำนาญด้านการพยาบาลผู้สูงอายุโดยสมรรถนะที่จำเป็นต่อการดูแลผู้สูงอายุของพยาบาลวิชาชีพที่สำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีเมื่อเข้าสู่การเป็นสังคมผู้สูงอายุประกอบด้วย 1) สมรรถนะด้านจริยธรรม 2) สมรรถนะด้านการพยาบาลแบบองค์รวม 3) สมรรถนะด้านการส่งเสริมสุขภาพและการป้องกันโรค 4) สมรรถนะด้านการจัดการดูแลรายกรณี 5) สมรรถนะด้านการเสริมสร้างพลังอำนาจ และ 6) สมรรถนะด้านการใช้หลักฐานเชิงประจักษ์ ดังนั้นสถานพยาบาลทั้งในระดับปฐมภูมิ ทุติยภูมิและตติยภูมิควรนำสมรรถนะดังกล่าวไปใช้การกำหนดนโยบายและกรอบทิศทางการบริหาร ตลอดการกำหนดวิธีการพัฒนาสมรรถนะแก่พยาบาลวิชาชีพและบุคลากรอื่นที่เกี่ยวข้องได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรม สำหรับสถานศึกษาทางการพยาบาลระดับปริญญาตรีควรนำสมรรถนะดังกล่าวไปสอดแทรกในการจัดการเรียนการสอน การบริการวิชาการ ตลอดจนการพัฒนานักศึกษา เพื่อเสริมสร้างสมรรถนะด้านการพยาบาลผู้สูงอายุได้ตรงตามสถานการณ์ของการเป็นสังคมผู้สูงอายุ

Essential Competencies of Registered Nurses for the Care of the Elderly in an Aging Society

Abstract

As Thailand becoming aging society, registered nurses are required to have essential knowledge and skills in geriatric nursing. The competencies of nurse graduates shall include 1) ethics, 2) holistic nursing care, 3) health promotion and disease prevention, 4) case management, 5) empowerment, and 6) evidence-based practice. Hence, health care facilities at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels should integrate these competencies in determining policies, an administrative framework, and concrete guidelines for registered nurses and other health professionals. For nursing baccalaureate study, these essential competencies should be incorporated into routine nursing education, academic services and nursing student development for the promotion of geriatric nursing competencies that are needed to address an aging society.
